Since the end of August 2013, I have been in resistance. Resistance against disappearance, erasure, oblivion, the impossibility to continue our shared work with Günther Ruch – in different ways – amongst other things, by making videos. I then realized that this notion of resistance corresponds above all to the personality and work of Günther who, his whole life, pursued work and took life decisions which demonstrated a form of resistance to the constraints, conventions, norms, trivialities, to the expected, the increasing capitalization of art, verticality, the ignorance and refusal of research, experimentation and novelty in art, the degradation of its notion, the hold of technique, etc. I then decided to resist the impossibility to work with Günther by showing different forms of his resistance as videos, reusing footage, films, sound recordings, photos, etc. by using his own discourse and my way of putting images in movement, reusing old recordings (visual and audio), by recomposing, mixing them … Images and sounds are set in motion with videos. In ‘poems in movement’, it is the sound of sentences, the images of words that draw me in – not the story they tell.
Colette Ruch is an artist who lives and works in Geneva. Since the seventies, the influence of Fluxus can be felt in her work through underground films, audio and virtual poetry, mail art and the marginal aesthetics in various media. Her collaboration with Günther Ruch began with Super 8 films in the seventies and transitioned into films in digital format as well as sound poetry since the 2000s. Since 2013, she has produced videos with the virtual participation of Günther.
