Andrea Bellini, Director of the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève and co-curator of BIM’26 alongside Lina Lazaar, reflecting on the biennale’s 40-year history, its longstanding commitment to new commissions, and its first major collaboration with the Kamel Lazaar Foundation to establish a regional platform for the production and circulation of moving image.
For this edition, BIM’26 brings together sixteen artists from across Africa, Asia, the Arab world, and Latin America and its diaspora. Thirteen of the sixteen participating artists are women; a constellation that reflects a sustained commitment to expanding the geographies, voices and perspectives represented within the biennale.
Together, these artists invite us to reconsider the perspectives from which the world is seen and narrated.
