Vaginal Davis began teaching in autumn 2018 as a guest artist at HEAD – Genève. With the aim of making us create a “punk-queer-core” band, she presented a series of experimental performance workshops. With the emphasis on a non-hierarchical approach, and numberless stories and gossip about the stars of the time, she also described her cultural history, which is principally punk, queer and feminist, though also linked to art history and cinema.

With the arrival of Olga Rozenblum in autumn 2020, the band was disbanded in order to create what was to become the video fanzine TVC15. Where experimentation without a fixed purpose, guided by the notion of “Doing by Doing”, built up, a form was developed that offered a way to prolong the experience by gathering, creating and circulating different archives produced in the workshop, and of introducing multiple references into it.

Open to people outside the workshop and even outside the school, these improvisations and reflections take a variety of prompts as their starting point, such as the musical film Ziegfield Girl (1941), videos of glossolalia in American Catholic churches, Valerie Solanas’ SCUM Manifesto, a national face-painting competition in the United Kingdom, Fertile La Toyah Jackson Magazines, and feminist post-porn videos. These will allow us to explore makeup, group performances, choral singing, rituals, and filmed stagecraft, as everything is recorded, even the unexpected.

The video fanzine TVC15 is composed of attempts at joint creation by this temporary collective, without any defined understanding of why, what or how. Using unspecific and organic methodologies, this project tackles, among other aims, notions of collective work, creating archives, paying tribute, politics, individual narratives, personal practices, failure and joy.

Taking the seminar-workshops presented by Vaginal Davis and Olga Rozenblum between 2018 and 2021 at HEAD – Genève, Haute école d’art et de design as their starting point, a group of artists has formed for a particular project: TVC15 – with Louise Bonpaix, Constance Brosse, Oélia Gouret, Delphine Mouly, Jimmy Nuttall, Neige Sanchez, Nelson Schaub, Mina Squalli, and occasional guests.
