Joo Young Hwang is an artist and researcher whose practice includes video, text, fiction writing and lecture-performances.

Joo Young Hwang’s lecture-performance-video It is not a Violation, but it is Violence  aims at deconstructing Labor politics and resistance movements around South Korean Factories in Cambodia and in South Korea from the 1970s to today. Based on her personal work experience as well as various workers’ voices, films and songs, the research project investigates the daily violence faced by Cambodian workers in South Korean transnational corporations and forms of resistance of women workers, which often are invisible or inaudible.
